The Sequel to Stumblestone
In the 1850’s, ten years after the events detailed in Stumblestone, the family of travelling players is on tour in the small towns and villages of the Baltic coast.
Their instinctive compassion leads them into danger as they seek to help and protect another innocent victim. But as a result, they are emorselessly hunted by a terrible killer intent on collecting a bounty from Metternich, arch-schemer of the Hapsburg Empire. The travellers’ goal may be safety and freedom, but will it come at a dreadful price.
The growing tension, as an inexorable menace closes in, is sustained by Clio Gray’s beautifully controlled delicacy of touch. Which is tender, unsentimental and at times shockingly violent.
